Last week saw the launch of The Dissolve, a new film sister site to Pitchfork. It's got the look, beautifully designed and interactive, but its precise identity is yet to be determined. So far, it has given more ink to blockbusters like Pacific Rim than indies, which is disappointing considering you would expect they have free reign under the tutelage of their home site. For the last decade, Pitchfork has enjoyed unparalleled cred in indie music with the power to break a little known band into indie fame, see Arcade Fire, or more recently, Grimes. Indie film has long lacked a similar influencing journalistic force, which was why it was exciting when the new site was announced. But other than an interview with Andrew Bujalski and a rave review for Computer Chess, there hasn't been much coverage of true indie films. We'll keep an eye on its development.
