*Online Premiere* Jared takes extreme measures to gain sympathy from his ex-boyfriend. “Boundaries,” by director Rhys Marc Jones, is an intimate character study about a toxic relationship, almost entirely delivered in subtext and insinuation. Claiming he was randomly attacked on the street, Jared shows up at Manny’s apartment with a head wound, and an agenda to burrow back into the life and feelings of his ex. Despite misgivings, Manny lets him in, and, after some wound nursing, seems to let down his guard down slightly. Without saying much, they get high (smoking pot out of a plastic water bottle), and when it triggers the smoke alarm, they quiet it by covering it with a sock. The same can’t be done for another type of alarm as Jared’s story starts to unravel. It’s a nicely observed piece, carried by quietly effective performances from Jared Free and Manny Dunn, and rich Super 16mm visuals. (9 minutes). Written and directed by Rhys Marc Jones. Starring Jared Free and Manny Dunn. D.P. Lasse Tolboll.
