*Online Premiere* A farcical L.A. comedy about a lonely woman about to lose it as her gay best friend drifts away. It calls back to another era, from the synth pop soundtrack, to the constantly ringing landline.
The best friend, Jack (played by director Nigel DeFriez) has no problem finding men to sleep with while Dana (Diana Joy) can’t seem to attract any, even though she's perpetually scantily-clad in a white bikini and sheer robe. When she’s not squeezing fresh oranges for her Screwdrivers, or ignoring the phone calls, she's craving sex with Jack or any other man who comes around. But it’s not like the old days. Something has changed. The bag of $100 bills laying in the bedroom suggests they may be on the run from something.
This is DeFriez’ first credit as solo director after co-directing The Mud and The Greggs. He has fun with his new West Coast setting, leaning into sunny visuals while maintaining his signature ludicrous characters and tropes. This is the 5th short DeFriez has directed, co-directed, or starred in on NoBudge (It’s the New John Early, Old Friends are the others), and it's another winner. Happy to present Dealing With Dana as an Online Premiere. (17 minutes). Official Selection: Maryland 2016. Winner Best Comedy Short, LA Indie.
