*Online Premiere* A young woman hires a hunky arborist to inspect a tree on her property, to the dismay of her husband. “Genius in a Small Town,” directed by Claire Siebers and Emma Horwitz, is a funny look at rugged masculinity and the reactions it inspires. The young couple — Selena and Hopper — and their simple life in the country is stirred up with the arrival of Bert Howard, creator of “Build Your Life with Bert,” a popular series of instructional how-to videos about connecting with “mama nature.” As Selena and Bert head off into the woods together to check on the potentially rotting tree, they establish a quick rapport, and Hopper is left alone in the house to discover Bert’s uncomfortably sexual videos. The film by Siebers and Horwitz offers plenty of amusing innuendo (“It’s tick season out here. Sometimes it helps to just take your clothes off”) and physical humor, but it’s also grounded with real questions of authenticity and commodification. [Watch on YouTube]. (12 minutes).
