In the male-dominated worlds of race car driving and car shows, two young women shake up their respective scenes. “Grid Girls,” directed by Georgia Krause, is a documentary profile on Alexus Motus, an emerging driver, and Mely B, a car model, as they meditate on what draws them into this world, and the perceptions around women in the field. Toggling between North Carolina and The Bronx, we see two facets of the car game - the small town speedway races, and the flashy car shows. In each, the women battle for respect and fairness while aiming to keep their nerves and self-confidence intact. A stylish and kinetic portrait made as a student project at NYU. [Watch on YouTube].
