*Online Premiere* Trapped in the moment before a break-up, Finn must channel his emotions through awkward conversations. “Our Last Normal Conversation,” directed by Cole Bacani, is a sad-eyed drama about the shock of imminent separation. Unapologetically mopey, it works because it feels true to its age, and it’s told with moments of humor and self-awareness. Swelling sad music abruptly cuts out when Finn punches a picture frame; later in a party scene, someone yells “my mom died last week,” which puts Finn’s breakup in perspective. Still, the emotions are real, pinned to those feelings of lost love that are completely uncharted at a certain age. Finn has help from friends, though it’s mostly ineffective. His friend, Anna, forces him to dance it out in an awkward but cathartic scene that perhaps best defines the film’s bittersweet tone. Bacani captures young heartache with sensitivity and feeling, while admitting that life goes on. [Watch on YouTube]. (17 minutes). Director/Writer: Cole Bacani.
