*Online Premiere* Two identical twin sisters deal with the arrival of a mysterious guest into their family home. This strikingly realized 16mm short by director Erin Vassilopoulos is filled with rich colors and textures, a singular demonstration of vision, much like another recent short of hers, Valeria, which we premiered in January.
Vivian and Marian live a sheltered life with their father. They spend their days dancing to old workout videos and reading romance novels at the local diner. When a strapping young traveller from Kentucky stays the night, it sparks a new desire within one sister to distinguish herself, threatening the twins bond.
Vivid attention to detail and impeccable production design frame the oddly compelling story aided by terrific performances from Alessandra and Anamari Mesa, and David Warshofsky. Vassilopoulos has the rare ability to burrow deep into the psyche quickly, doing so by balancing the surreal with art horror flourishes and allusions to b-movie sleaze. (16 minutes) Official Selection Sundance, Berlin, et al. Directed by Erin Vassilopoulos. Cast Alessandra Mesa, Anamari Mesa, David Warshofsky. Cinematography by Mia Cioffi Henry.
