*Online Premiere* On the verge of multiple breakdowns, a New York artist faces her greatest fear: to stop making art. “Unfinished, 2017 (Mixed Media),” by director Rafael Salazar Moreno, captures a pivotal moment in the life of Elena, a woman of passion and contradiction caught in an onslaught of financial instability and diminishing career opportunity. She’s in a relationship with Alex, the realist of the two, who is happy to support her within reason, but also nudges her not so subtlety to make more money. But it’s not about the money for Elena, and she maintains her focus on finishing her new project, a series of sculptures comprised of all of her old possessions tied together with string (a statement on being weighed down by our own objects, which themselves often have problematic origins). As her studio landlord hounds her to catch up on rent, she struggles to attract interested buyers. Desperation piles up high and fast, her arguments with Alex repeat themselves, hopelessness creeps in. Anyone who’s ever strived to be an artist and hit a financial roadblock will recognize the pain and disillusionment on display here. It’s a disorientating, frustrating, soul-sapping journey told with verve and raw emotion. [Watch on YouTube]. (16 minutes). Director, Producer, Writer and Editor: Rafael Salazar Moreno.
