*Online Premiere* A documentary about a hypothetical hurricane unexpectedly turns into a documentary about a real one. Filmed over the course of 7 years, “We Like it Here,” by Kyle Richard McCarthy, is both a firsthand account of Hurricane Sandy in 2012, as well as the years-long aftermath for one family and one town - Long Beach, New York. A film that wears its doubts and insecurities on its sleeve, it gains poignancy as the years go by. While the documentary sits unfinished, often for long stretches at a time, McCarthy goes on with his life, gets married, has a child, and tries to ignore the project he says he regrets creating a Kickstarter for. And yet, he always comes back to it, and eventually…well, here we are. In the end, it’s an intimate story about a family and the passage of time, reflecting on sudden life changes and environmental havoc, while an uncertain future looms large. [Watch on YouTube].
