A peculiar relationship develops between a Mukbang YouTuber and her editor. “Amuse Bouche,” directed by Jacob Klemmer, highlights a bizarre online video genre where on-screen personalities eat food and interact with users. Here the show is called Natalie Eats, an ASMR type presentation where Natalie chows down on toast, cookies, noodles, pizza, etc, while whispering seductively into a microphone. Occasionally she speaks directly to Allison, her editor, who see instructs to leave in bloopers or punch up the humor. As Allison gets wrapped up in this strange gig, she’s both repelled and fascinated. Klemmer’s film mirrors its reference format with a measured approach, and the slow build stays intriguing with counteracting personalities and encroaching interpersonal tension. -KA. Director: Jacob Klemmer. Cast: Laura Brennan. Camilla Luna Blanco Purdy. DoP: Marrs Melville. Costume / hair and makeup designer: Vanessa Barron. Best boy: Frances Jenks.
