A young musician living in Hollywood experiences a bizarre mystery that leads him on a journey to the Los Angeles River. Conor Scheinberg writes and directs “Boris,” a grim slow burn drama set in a bleak rendition of L.A. We meet Boris in the front seat of his car. He does pick-ups and drop-offs around the city as a driver. After some odd occurrences with clients, we follow Boris and his acoustic guitar to a bar show. After performing, he’s approached by an enthusiastic acquaintance, Harry. Cryptically so, Harry stresses a desire to be understood, and he asks Boris to play a role in his film. Boris accepts, but, upon arriving at the filmmaker’s home the next day, the house is trashed and Harry seems to have gone missing. From there, Boris meanders through various neighborhoods and his interactions with strangers become increasingly disturbing. With its dark tone and unique use of west coast atmosphere, the film leans into an unresolved ambiguity as it concludes with an unsettling musical performance. -JM. Director/Writer: Conor Scheinberg.
