A walk through a 16-yr-old’s uncomfortable shoes: gym class, an awkward encounter with a crush, and a meeting with her mom’s new boyfriend. Vanessa Meyer directs “Foot Trouble,” a coming-of-age set in 1999 that captures some darkly funny corners of a teenage girl’s day-to-day life. Sitting in her poster-covered bedroom, Jade records a video journal. Speaking directly to the camera, she discusses the emotional pain she’s forced to shove deep down. Swimming in gym class is less than ideal, and there, she meets with a classmate who has an unusual request. Jade returns home to where her mother hosts a new guy she’s seeing. Isolating herself in her room, she ignores her mother’s knocks at the door and prepares to record another video. It’s an earnest glimpse at youth filled with specificity and detail. -JM. Director: Vanessa Meyer. Cast: Kate Jeffrey, Abbey George, Julian Grady, Cary Curran. DP: Luke McCutcheon. Editor: Aron Koszeg. Co-Writer: Joshua Strauch.
