A young woman returns home to recover a personal possession. Rachel Rambaldi directs and stars in “HERLY,” a comedy-drama about a fractured family and an attempt to heal. In a car with two cult members dressed in gray, Nora surveys her family home in Southern California. To carry out her mission, she heads inside and scavenges through rooms and closets. When she discovers her brother sitting in the kitchen solemnly, her search is interrupted. In the film, location and tone complement each other nicely and Rambaldi’s deadpan performance plays off the dry isolation of the suburban setting. Constructed with ambiguity and restraint, it’s a contemplative exploration of adult sibling relationships and their search for catharsis. -JM. Director: Rachel Rambaldi, Written by Jon Walkup and Rachel Rambaldi. Cast: Jon Walkup, Rachel Rambaldi, Swan Draper, Aidan Dick, James Packard.
