A troubled man attempts to see his son. “It Is Well,” directed by Antony Acheampong, is a one-take drama about a desperate father trying to keep it together as he battles inner demons. Anxiously fiddling with a lighter, Koj waits outside a London town house that belongs to his child’s mother. After speaking with his own mother over the phone — who offers a prayer of protection — Koj enters the home and catches up with his son’s caretaker. After seeing the boy upstairs in his room, Koj shifts focus and the film turns on its head. Shot in a single take, it’s an impressive technical feat that builds real-time tension as it depicts the impulsive and complicated psyche of a distraught father. -JM. Directed by Antony Acheampong.
