A mysterious pile of rocks show up in a Montreal parking lot and a group of young people gravitate to the odd sight. “La Roche,” directed by Emma Cosgrove, is a mixed-media melange of documentary and experimental fiction, a poetic meditation on the natural world and the unique pathways of our lives. The “rock regulars,” as they’re called, treat the pile as some sort of cafe — they go there to drink coffee, do some reading or writing, meditate on the state of things. They speculate where the rocks may have come from (aliens?) and where they are headed (landscaping?), but feel “rock reverence” either way, as it has given them a space to be alone with their thoughts. A lo-fi but stylish rumination which is both lighthearted and deep-thinking. -KA. Director: Emma Cosgrove. Cast: Catherine Machado, Michael Sayegh, Iva Celebic. Director of Photography: Emma Cosgrove.
