A woman fantasizes about a romantic night at a bar, including a fling with her bartender. “Queendom,” directed by Nat Gee, is a lighthearted music video shot on 16mm and filled with colorful production design and costuming. A woman and a man make eyes, he makes her a drink and offers her a rose, they share a cake topped with sprinkles, he squirts her with a water gun. That kind of thing. Gee’s film is simple but it knows exactly what it’s after and doesn’t shy away from sensual pleasures. A playful exhibition of idealized desire, it’s even more of a fantasy in the Covid era, almost like how we imagine life will be post-virus when we are free to flock back to bars and resume our perfect (?) lives.
