A new father tries to find time to skateboard. Zach Weintraub directs and stars in “Rad Dad,” a portrait of early parenthood, skating, and balancing it all. Zach drives over to meet his friend Taylor at his backyard half-pipe. His toddler sits buckled up in the back as a children’s song plays. Despite hoping to get a good clip for the afternoon, the difficulty of hitting a consistent flow while tending to his child makes the endeavor a struggle. As the afternoon passes and the sun gets brighter, more of the guys arrive to the session. When we’re not observing Weintraub’s drop-ins through a lens-flared fisheye, we watch the day pass through wide, static frames. The look offers both a comedic and endearing appreciation of early parenthood and the effort to maintain an active, youthful spirit. -JM. Director: Zach Weintraub. Cast: Zach Weintraub, Frances Eister Weintraub, Taylor Reed, Matt Lemier, Ian Killelea, Jackson Nobody. Producer/DP: Ian Clark.
