A supercut compilation of an early 2000’s New York City. Nicolas Umpierrez compiles “Redbirds,” a poignant found-footage piece gathering clips from various YouTube accounts. Although simple in its technical aspect, Umpierrez’s film memorializes the scenes of a short-lived moment in time — the beginning and high spirits of the 2000 millennium cut short by the events of September 11th, 2001. Presenting clips of a pre-9-11 New York, the film casts an innocently nostalgic, and excited feeling, a surreal reminder of a different reality. -Jinho Myung. Directed and edited by Nicolas Umpierrez.
