The star of a viral sex video comes into contact with an over-eager fan at a empty movie theater. Pepi Ginsberg directs “Swallow Grass Snakes,” a dark drama about the perils of online fame and an unpredictable intrusion into a young woman’s private life. On a quiet winter evening, Devin takes her younger sister to see a film at the local theater. What begins as a carefree night turns creepy when a male employee recognizes Devin from the internet. This spurs a series of increasingly unsettling interactions forcing the siblings to consider a spontaneous change of plans. Ginsberg’s film paints a complex picture with nuanced characterizations and terrific performances — particularly from Gus Birney in the lead role, quietly expressive as she teeters between self-assured and freaked out — filled out with moody, atmospheric visuals and tense sequencing. Director, producer, editor: Pepi Ginsberg. Starring Gus Birney, Jefferson White, and Luca Sabine. Director of Photography: Melanie Akoka.
