Technical issues abound as a voiceover artist attempts to record a local news spot about an upcoming storm. “Ursula Promo,” directed by Tyler Rubenfeld, is one, uninterrupted six minute shot of the man (played by Matt Hopkins, impeccable) trying to perfect his weather warning performance for the Eyes on 20 Weather Alert app. After the first take, he listens as his producer suggests more ominous and more urgent. He gives it another spin, and then another, and as the actual storm closes in around them, setting off phone alarms and a general sense of unease, the artificial drama of the recorded alert turns into real-time tension. The fly-on-the-wall approach serves the film well, allowing the viewer space to speculate on metaphorical intent. This is the third film we’ve featured from Rubenfeld — see also: 2015’s “Wake Me When I Leave” and 2014’s “Vlogger.”
Writer, Editor, Producer, Director: Tyler Rubenfeld. Starring Matt Hopkins. Featuring Jenna D'Angelo and Yoni Benyamini. Director of Photography: Paul Taylor. Production Sound and Sound Design: Miki Benyamini and Yoni Benyamini.
