Two Brooklyn filmmakers make a personal documentary about playing the lottery. Stephanie Ibarra and Anna Torzullo direct and star in “Fortuna,” a satirical portrait that follows the friends and co-directors as they reckon with the possibility of becoming millionaires. Each wielding Sony handycams capturing every second of their evening, they head to a bodega to purchase two tickets for the the 226 million dollar Powerball. But soon their vision is compromised by dying cameras and a boom operator who has had enough. The playful chemistry between Ibarra and Torzullo carries the project as details of interpersonal conflict (re: a boyfriend named Johnny), and creative disagreements (re: a blockbuster film named “Castaway”) complicate their wish fulfillment. We previously featured the duo with their 2022 short, “Egg.” -KA. Directors: Stephanie Ibarra & Anna Torzullo. Cast: Stephanie Ibarra, Anna Torzullo & Jude Schoenfeld. Editor: Stephanie Ibarra.
