A father in rural Pakistan comes to a realization during the morning routine with his family. Maazin Kamal directs “Morning Without Light,” a black and white observational narrative of a small family living in isolation from the modern world. The father starts his day early by rinsing off at a creek and sharpening his hatchet, while the mother prepares a meal and tends to their son. Kamal meticulously observes the family using static frames, all without dialogue, holding a light particularly on the dynamics of a patriarchal household. With acute attention to detail, the film is quietly meditative and evocative while it builds up to an emotionally expressive moment. -Jinho Myung. Writer and Director: Maazin Kamal. Cast: Sunil Shanker, Erum Bashir, Hadi Rahman. Director of Photography: Maazin Kamal. Editor: Maazin Kamal. Original Music: Rakae Jamil.
