Delusions of Grandeur: Episode 2
Two sisters attempt to make a short film for a film festival. The episodic “Delusions of Grandeur,” written by and starring real-life sisters, Taylor and Ellen Young (along with director Jedediah Thunell), is a lighthearted satire about imperviously chasing your dreams past the point of no return. Here we feature episode two where Taylor and Ellen scheme to involve an old friend, Ian — who apparently has just wrapped a Warner Brothers film — to direct their script. They sign up for his ‘acting class for women’ and angle for help. After Ellen delivers a surprisingly effective monologue about being scared of failure, the sisters begin to see hope. This despite the skepticism of their other sister, Lauren, who has gained their father’s favor by being a successful lawyer (and by not still living in his house like Taylor/Ellen). At the first whiff of momentum, Taylor quits her nude modeling job and urges Ellen to reject her promotion to VP of Experiences at a company called Hive Mind. Built around the natural chemistry of the Young sisters, the series is playfully meta and filled with memorable exchanges and relatable conundrums. If you’ve been following NoBudge for awhile, you may recognize Taylor from “Ford Clitaurus” (2017), one of our favorite short films from the last decade. -KA. Director: Jedediah Thunell.
