Another one for ya, same deal, brilliant film that nobody's seen, that's gotten no credit, played 1 festival (La Di Da '13). I can't stand how much I love this movie. It takes me back to the days of my Todd Solondz obsession circa 2000. Sure, it's got precedents, but it still comes out of nowhere...With a piercing awkwardness, that might not be awkward anymore because it's so precise, the unsettled women with the strange lump in her arm pit looks for meaning in a low rent self-help book. The first step is saying what you want, and hilariously, what she wants is a…car. Of course, she needs a mentor in her quest, and who better than the author's assistant himself, who she may have a thing for, or may just be using. Perfect Thoughts clips along, never losing the point of anxiety and false hope and delusion. There's clarity in every scene despite the warped VHS tape from which we're apparently watching. The filmmaker here is Doron Max Hagay and he makes the whole thing look easy, just like any good self-help book should. -KA.
