When a pizza-loving Nigerian tourist gets lost on his way to see a comedy show, his night takes several unexpected turns. “Lost City,” directed by Max Cea and John Hammond, is a scrappy portrait of a spontaneous night in New York City and an unlikely connection made. The outsider’s tale finds Dekunle aimlessly wandering around Greenwich Village searching for his two great loves, pizza and comedy. He finds plenty of pizza, which is where he meets a charmingly hardened New Yorker named Bella who points him in the right direction, before later accompanying him on an up-and-down adventure into Brooklyn. A joint directorial effort — we’ve previously featured one half of the duo, Hammond here — the film is lifted by its offbeat (at times mystical) energy and free flowing chemistry between Dekunle, Bella and NYC. -KA.
