An office assistant at a culture website comes down with a mysterious illness. “Thread,” directed by Max Rosen, is both a satire on millennial workplaces (SUP “We’ve Got Content”), and a paranoia-doused descent into mental breakdown. River L. Ramirez plays Joni, who, along with several other young people, find themselves at a paint-by-numbers content creation factory, delivering an endless stream of Halloween, or Labor Day, or whatever month it is, themed web posts. One day, Joni is disturbed at what appears to be a piece of thread growing out of her skin. A feverish period of fact-finding turns up conflicting reports, and as the thread grows ever longer, Joni is forced to consider a drastic solution. Featuring an all-star cast of Brooklyn comedians (Ana Fabrega, John Early, Colin Burgess, among others), Rosen’s film has strange and funny moments, but often veers away from comedy into the realm of dread, sickness, and body horror. Produced, written, directed, shot & edited by Max Rosen. Starring River L. Ramirez, Ana Fabrega, Beth Hoyt, Colin Burgess & John Early. Original score by Alec Lambert. Sound by Frank Flaherty. Digital effects by Garret Layman.
