Drama, Short Films, 01-May-2023
After coming to America to visit her daughter, a Chinese woman is unable to return home as the Covid-19 pandemic begins. “Ten Months,” directed by Amie Song, is an understated drama crafted with simplicity and emotion, a period piece that accurately captures the mood and trajectory of the coronavirus lockdowns. In a small New York City apartment, a mother and daughter live together as the days turn into weeks turn into months. Early concerns such as masking and government response turns into a full reimagining of life where leaving the house is unadvisable. Built around solid performances and familial truths, it registers a cut above many other pandemic films as a generational exploration of identity, culture, and assimilation. -KA.
