Briant and Edo have kids and family now. Work, kids, life - will they survive? Director Tynan DeLong returns with this brilliantly ludicrous sequel to “Love is Stinks,” picking up twenty years after Briant and Edo began their passionate love affair. In “Family is Stinks,” we find the couple deep into family life, two kids, stressful jobs, the responsibilities of parenthood stacking up a little too high. Briant tries to teach his son baseball (or as the son calls it, “ball”), but he just wants to be inside, online, looking at pictures of “choo choo trains”. Meanwhile, their daughter doesn’t have time to eat eggs because she’s running for class president (“for my subplot”). The hectic household gets an even bigger jolt when dad finds a pregnancy test in the trashcan and is forced to confront the family. This is just the beginning, and, as in the prequel, the basic idea is to stuff in as many tropes and plot points as they can (DeLong discusses here) in the most absurd, unscripted, and fast way possible: the 23 minute “Love is Stinks” was filmed entirely in 4 hours while “Family is Stinks” took 6 hours to clock 30 minutes. Thus, the poor use of language and super rushed dialogue is back with a vengeance, as is the genius cast led by Brian Fiddyment and Edy Modica.
