*Online Premiere* In Los Angeles Chinatown, a lonely teenager tries to help her parents keep their seafood restaurant afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Sorry for the Inconvenience,” directed by Jane Chow, is a tender portrait of an immigrant family from Hong Kong which builds warmhearted characterizations in challenging conditions. As she prepares for her upcoming driver’s permit test and a Zoom performance of “The Tempest,” the family’s daughter chips in around the restaurant as well - taking phone calls, offering to help with deliveries, etc. Through the hardship, the daughter continues to dream big and small — going to college, for instance, or just going to the beach with her aunt (her mother dismisses the idea: “the beach is for white people”). Chow’s film delivers natural richness with lovely visuals and sweet-natured performances. -KA.
