After being dumped under the Manhattan bridge in a cardboard box, a lost and bewildered man tries to get home to Long Island. A frenetic extravaganza of anything-goes street cinema, “Little Boy Maniac,” directed by David Cardoza, crams what could have been a feature-length film into thirty minutes of full-tilt action. Thrown into the big city for the first time, alone and under mysterious circumstances, Walter Carmine Jr. struggles to find his way out of the chaos. He borrows a cell phone to call his mother but loses connection in the subway and so begins a non-stop roller coaster night. Everywhere he turns there is trouble, with a beggar on the train, with a man selling ice cream in Central Park, and especially with the guy who let him borrow his phone, now hot on his trail. A slapdash masterpiece of guerrilla filmmaking that captures the madness of New York and its perpetual motion and crazed characters with chases through real-life city crowds and unflinching audacity. -KA.
