A platonic meet-cute at a bus stop whimsically spirals into a surprising connection between a makeup artist and a nun. In “Sisters,” written by Beth Hoyt & directed by Nicole Emanuele, nothing is quite what it seems and getting exactly what you wished for is not necessarily a good thing. Waiting for the bus, two strangers strike up a conversation after realizing they’re both wearing the same t-shirt (a shirt for a college neither of them went to). We soon learn that the nun keeps her bag stocked with a wide variety of items — granola bars, oranges, champagne, a puppy — all of which she offers to her new friend at the stop. The makeup artist is on her way to work but she has a higher calling that will soon reveal itself. They dance together, bond over a haircut, and talk about their dreams. It’s a wonderfully odd comedy — witty and absurd and carefully choreographed — and it’s packed with left turns where seemingly random details form into cosmic connections. -KA.
