An actor is forced to take a Lyft to the Emmys and becomes embroiled in his driver's personal life. John de Menil writes and directs “Nominated,” a tumultuous comedy that targets the elevated manner which we treat celebrities, and throws one — a perfectly coiffed man in a tuxedo ready for a night of luxurious self-congratulations — into a heated domestic squabble. Due to an address mix up, the Emmy nominated Finn scrambles to come up with a backup plan. Enter the rideshare mini-van with the driver happy to oblige, except for the tense drama that comes between them and the red carpet drop off. When the driver gets a hysterical call from a friend, seemingly on the edge of harming himself or his girlfriend, Finn freaks out and recommends heading to Eagle Rock to calm the situation. At play throughout is the commonly perceived gap between normal people, with their emotional problems and screaming matches, and movie stars, with their perfect lives, rich and in control, a myth that gets flipped in the film’s hilarious final monologue. “What’s that from?”-KA. Writer and director: John de Menil. Cast: Finn Wittrock, T.J. Bowen, Leah Henoch, and Aldous Davidson. Producers: Lisa Steen, Anna Greenfield, Vinny Cardinale.
