A lonesome woman with strong moral fiber meets a new man for a late night drink. “Bar Snakes,” directed by Alex Warren, is a boozy vignette that perfectly captures the flirtatious maneuverings of two tipsy souls. The woman (played by Kate Adams) is already drunk when the date starts; the man (played by director Warren) is game to keep the party going. “So, why are you with me,” she asks. He tells her she’s pretty. She insists that men never used to like her. They talk about his baldness, his age. They build to moments of bleary-eyed intimacy and connect over subconscious smells and memories. A messy vulnerability pervades, that is, until an innocent remark about “booger sugar” alters the mood of the night. Largely filmed in one take, Warren’s film rests entirely on its performances, the funny and real back and forth dynamic between Adams and Warren. -KA.
