On a hot day in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, a young woman paints her Nanna’s pergola before the house is auctioned. Pat Mooney’s “Lime Parfait” is a steady slice-of-life possessing a sentimental outlook on early adulthood and familial responsibilities. Atop a step ladder under a bright summer sun, Dani paints the wooden beams to the awning in her grandmother’s backyard. While she paints, there’s a call from her mother, and the two discuss a shared concern over Nanna’s reluctance to sell the home. Overhearing bits of their conversation, Nanna dishes some judgment; she also stresses to Dani that the greenish paint doesn’t appear to be the same as the original color 50 years ago. Patient to please her Nanna, we follow Dani to the hardware store and then finally to the seashore where she ends her day. Mooney’s quaint portrayal of the Australian suburb and Hannah Camilleri’s gentle delivery both work to evoke a mellow, tender look at passing time. -JM. Director: Pat Mooney.
