In Corona, Queens, two Ecuadorian siblings are placed at odds when one reveals an urge to leave their home. Emilio Subia’s “Naños” drops us into the bumbling lives of two brothers and the high-stakes drama that allures them. Fleeing a petty heist, Diego sprints through the subway alongside his partner in crime. They scored some jewelry and have plans to make a sale later in the evening. When he makes it back home, he accidentally walks in on his older brother Andrés with his boyfriend, but before they know it, it’s already time for the brothers to head down stairs and help at their mother’s restaurant. As Diego flashily wears the rings around his fingers, Andrés is quick to clock the aspirations of his little brother, possibly seeing an opened window for himself. The film maneuvers from mezzanines to sidewalks in a not often explored Queens neighborhood.
