Through an unexpected phone call, a young man asks his ex-girlfriend if she would be willing to reflect on a road trip three years ago. Elijah Smith presents “The Road Trip,” a lo-fi personal documentary that recollects memories from a relationship and re-lives heartbreak. Elijah calls his ex on the phone. It’s been a long time since they last spoke but in an effort to sew together visual documents from their trip, the man searches for reconciliation. While she remains anonymous, the woman goes into detail about the intimate frustrations as well as the feelings of closeness they experienced on the trip: fights in casinos, hikes in Sedona, and dinners on the road. As it concludes with a musical montage showing more video snippets from their interstate trip, the film is brief. Nonetheless, it’s a candid and earnest document of an intense young love. -JM. Director: Elijah Smith. Producer: Joshua Elias Palmer.
