A young couple visiting New York gets into a fight in Times Square. Shae Sennett’s “Times Square Love Story” is an experimental observation of a dysfunctional couple trapped in the peculiar metropolitan Petri dish. Bickering about what to purchase, sore legs, and whatever else there is to argue over, “Babe” and “Murphy” meander around in the midst of massive LED ad boards and bustling city ambience. Babe can’t stop complaining, but it’s also unclear what’s fueling Murphy’s eternally-pessimistic attitude. Their moments of drama are interrupted by interludes displaying multi-screen points of observation while a moody ambient score plays. The couple’s agitated dynamic along with the film’s unique visual approach form a moment that is suffocating but compelling. -JM. Director: Shae Sennett.
