A western novelist makes a noise complaint to his neighbors before getting sucked into their strange orbit. “A Man’s World,” directed by Jens Josephs, is a loopy, rapid-fire comedy wherein a man enters a rabbit hole and struggles to find his way out. After the cowboy-hat-wearing writer slides a note under the door of the offending noise makers, he gets invited into their apartment for a ‘party.’ The party, as it were, is largely a photo session where two roommates take pictures of their Instagram-famous cat. The writer is enlisted to help by tossing confetti. As the night wears on, the party begins to grow, and so does the tension, the manipulations, and the passive aggressive behavior. Perfectly cast and performed, the film delivers a kinetic pace with its (sometimes indecipherably) quick dialogue, (intentionally) disorientating editing, and constantly shifting character dynamics. -KA.
