When User's world sim is compromised, a customer service AI walks him through a perplexing account recovery process. “Recovery,” directed by Nick Lane, blurs reality and the digital world through a hyperactive first person POV. After a failed log-in attempt, our User turns to assistance from an elf-eared, AI-generated support agent named Cloud. After some quick debriefing, Cloud and User embark on the hectic recovery process where they troubleshoot seemingly real software bugs, third party devices, and encrypted update packages. Spanning just over three minutes, the VR journey captivates us from each obstacle to the next. Lane’s use of 3D animation, stop motion-esque frame rates, and highly textured environments all lead to an incredibly colorful and stimulating viewing experience. -Jinho Myung. Director: Nick Lane. Cast: Anna Pederson, Nick Lane, Justin Healey, and Steve Kelly.
