A burly stranger looking for a place to lay his head arrives at the home of a newly single mother renting out her guest house. “Rebound,” written by Wes Haney and directed by NoBudge Hall-of-Famer Doron Max Hagay, is pure comedy gold, built with priceless performances from Katy Fullan and George McAuliffe, playing a duo from a bygone era when women looked to men for strength and stability. The mom, having just split with her husband minutes ago via phone call (see Haney’s previous short, “Bounce,” which serves as a loose prequel), is immediately taken with Allen Sanders, the self-assured man at her door carrying a trash bag - his strength and manliness are obvious (“my hand is three times the size of yours”). She shows him around the place and who knows what’s possible after that - between them and also with her young boy, almost three now, recently stripped of a father.
Written by Wes Haney. Directed by Doron Max Hagay. Starring Katy Fullan and George McAuliffe with Eddie Peyton. Cinematography by Tara Touzie. Edited by Michael Mezzina. Color and Mix by Michael Mezzina.
