A woman finds a way out of an abusive relationship. “Blue Light,” directed by Lucia Martinez Garcia, is an experimental portrait of a woman’s escape told through sci-fi elements. In the darkness, we overhear a fuming fall-out between a couple on their last leg. With an abrupt, and possibly violent, ending to their argument, the woman is left sitting in a subdued state of shock. She tries to make it clear to him that it’s officially over, but there’s some pushback. After a surreal episode of realization, she leaves on her motorbike. Paced out steadily, the film reflects the unnamed character’s state of mind through unconventional visual moments. Despite seeming unfazed during her solitude, the sense of urgency is clear, leaving her resilient demeanor all the more striking. -JM. Written, directed and edited by Lucia Martinez Garcia.
