Burnt Toast
Documentary, Short Films, 06-Jun-2022
On a remote mountaintop in Vermont, a charismatic hippie makes his living selling novelty toasters. “Burnt Toast,” directed by Timothy Racca Morrish, is a documentary portrait of an unconventional online business run by a fun-loving, pot-smoking, guitar-playing, oddball. In lively anecdotes, Galen Paul Dively III recounts the history of his company from its inception through periods of mainstream media attention and business growth. (The unlikely path to toast art began after following the Grateful Dead around the country making tie dye t-shirts). With an infectious personality and sense of humor, Dively reflects on the joys, challenges, and paradoxes of American entrepreneurship, and the film gains poignancy as he openly dives into his personal life and visions for his future. Lovely visuals of Dively’s wooded property, its vibrant Fall foliage moving into Winter, build a vivid sense of place and gravity. -KA. Director: Timothy Racca Morrish.
