Crying Man

Perhaps most notable for its lead performance by Nora Kirkpatrick, a musician in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, & an actress who has had supporting roles on "The Office" and others. She turns in a sad, sweet performance taking on the world's troubles by way of worrying about a crying man in the grocery store. Her empathy for the man, knowing nothing of his troubles, consumes her, each time she returns to the store, he's there, and she must reckon with the gravitational pull. "If you're crying in the store, you want somebody to say something to you, don't you?" Her Patrick Bateman (minus the killing) of a boyfriend/husband is as brutish as she is compassionate, and though he's just gotten a promotion and they seem well-off & have a healthy social life, there's a fundamental problem with the relationship. "Crying Man" is directed by Brett Allen Smith -- he shows a sure hand sculpting the surreal & mundane.
