Everything Happens to Me
LGBT, 21-Jun-2021
After a strange first date, a young man recounts the experience to his roommate. “Everything Happens to Me,” directed by Nick Beardslee, is an amiable rom-com about an intimate connection that suddenly goes off the rails. Shown in parallel timelines — we watch the date unfold, and we hear about it after the fact — the intrigue is waiting for the thing to go wrong, though for awhile, it seems to be a strong connection. A casual stroll leads to a romantic dinner and into some intimate moments, but late in the evening, a revealing conversation leads to a surprise response. Beardslee’s film is well-conceived and performed, built with vivid personality and lighthearted tension. -KA. Writer, Director: Nick Beardslee. Cast: Andrew Cekala, Erica Ito, Jeremy Clemente. Original score by Nick Beardslee and Chris Tamayo.
