Fix
Drama, Short Films, 31-Mar-2020
Two sisters, Willa and Lanie, take a vow of silence as they detox Willa’s boyfriend from alcoholism at a remote family cabin. “Fix,” directed by Peter Molesworth, is a quiet drama about the toll of addiction and the strength required to intervene. We only get a glimpse at Daniel’s drinking but he finds himself in a precarious moment, and Lanie suggests a drastic measure. At the cabin, Daniel suffers through withdrawal while the sisters, in solidarity, give up speaking for eight days. The serene lake setting (captured beautifully by DP, Shaya Mulcahy) juxtaposes against Daniel’s suffering and the sisters’ burden. Molesworth creates vivid atmosphere in minimal yet potent ways, and gets wonderful performances from Brigette Lundy-Paine and Annie Young, expressive in their silence and their resolve. -KA.
