Handheld
11m
A forgotten handheld camera disrupts the bedtime routine of a single mother and her young son. Pisie Hochheim and Tony Oswald direct “Handheld,” a tender drama on family bonds and frays carried by wonderfully real performances from Jordan Gosnell and Emery Oswald. One night while searching for a VHS tape, a young son finds an old camcorder with a home video he’s never seen. His curiosity sparks and he inquires of his mother to show him the tape. Scrolling through the video reveals cute footage of the boy as a baby, but also a significant missing piece in his family history. The film is a simple but rich exploration of single motherhood and complex boyhood which finds a wealth of emotion in scenes beaming with specificity and care.
