Jason Richardson
26-Jan-2021
Matteo reckons with the disappearance of his older brother, Damascus, after his car turns up unexplainably abandoned. A poetic mood piece directed by J.P. Emodi, “Jason Richardson” follows the young man through a quietly tumultuous period as he grapples with memories of his brother and begins to come to terms with their shared and separate pasts. In the mysteriously empty red Prius are a lighter and a Golden State Warriors jersey of the titular Jason Richardson, items Matteo holds in reverence as he enters an emotional fog with a head full of unanswered questions. Emodi’s film is not about searching as much as it is about ruminating on a new absence, and waiting for something you’re not sure will ever come. It registers deeply with its inward, self-reflective ambiance, composed with richly textured visuals and lovely pieces of music. -KA. Writer, Director, Editor: J.P. Emodi.
