Me & My Friend Just Want Our Pizza

Katelyn and Halie just want to get high and watch Pixar movies but an invasive pizza delivery boy derails their Friday night. “Me & My Friend Just Want Our Pizza,” by directors Fernando Andrés and Tyler Rugh, is a stoner comedy about a casual evening that turns creepy. Like in their previous short, “Igloo,” Andrés and Rugh have a knack for capturing the way teenagers speak in natural ways - the rapid fire banter, modern turns of phrase, multiple threads in the air at once. After awhile, they realize they’re starving. When the Papa John’s pizza delivery guy arrives, he’s a kid from their school and barges into the house without an invitation. The girls, baked and paranoid, are unsettled by the pushy dude but don’t know how to get him to leave. Built off the effortless chemistry and personality of its two leads - the girls are played by Katelyn Young and Halie Elliott - the film works as a naturalistic portrait of a friendship, and then potentially as something else entirely, as it adds layers of unease.
