Middle Sized Things
Comedy, Short Films, 15-Aug-2023
Debate sparks when a steadfast student challenges a guest lecturer and his presentation on metaphysics. Michael Rees directs “Middle Sized Things,” a comedic commentary on moral ambiguity and hierarchies in the higher education space. A visiting speaker, played by Al Warren, opens his lecture with the prompt, ‘Big or Small? Good or Bad? What’s the BIG deal?’ From there, despite a sense of confidence in his research, students struggle with the direction of the discussion. That is, until one student, played by Eric Rahill, raises his hand and begins to poke holes in the speaker’s philosophies. As Socratic discourse ensues, the conversation is suddenly cut short due to a family emergency. Rees, whose “Love Machine” we featured earlier this year, once again demonstrates a refreshing exploration of extreme behavior and the reactions that follow. -Jinho Myung. Director: Michael Rees.
