Others

A collection of vignettes involving people in everyday moments who are tethered to otherworldly beings. “Others,” directed by Grace Rex, is a study in mood and hidden meaning, a strange, experimental portrait mostly free of dialogue but thick in atmosphere. In one segment, a woman named Dianne whips up some eggs while muttering to herself in the kitchen; another finds a giddy woman jumping on the bed while an older gentleman struggles on the floor. Perhaps the most tangible vignette is an absurd office exchange between co-workers that captures the frustration of failed protocol and miscommunication. Though Rex shows little interest in announcing each chapter’s exact meaning, the film is rich with tones, textures, compositions, and colors. -KA. Writer, Director: Grace Rex.
